11,800 Ugandans endorse Akena Obote’s 2026 presidential bid

A total of 11,800 Ugandans have appended their signatures in support of Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party president Jimmy James Michael Akena Obote, who is aspiring to the country’s presidency in the 2026 general elections.

On 15 August 2025, UPC leaders collected nomination forms from the Electoral Commission and officially launched the signature collection drive to support Akena Obote’s candidacy.

Speaking after submitting the signatures yesterday, Oyam North MP Dr Eunice Apio Otuku confirmed that they had gathered 11,800 signatures from 118 districts across Uganda.

She added that Akena now awaits the payment of the UGX 20 million nomination fee ahead of the nomination process, scheduled for 23 September 2025.
