Security in Apac district has arrested a driver transporting 720 bags of charcoal. This follows an order from the Apac Resident District Commissioner (RDC) to implement President Yoweri Museveni’s directive against the sale and burning of charcoal as a measure to conserve the environment.

Joan Apio, the deputy RDC of Apac, said last month that they conducted an operation along the route from Apac to Masindi port ferry. They also arrested businessmen from Adjumani and Amuru districts who had been transporting charcoal via the River Nile to districts in central Uganda.

Rogers Kapere, the District Police Commander (DPC) of Apac, confirmed this report. Kapere said the driver of the vehicle was released on police bond, but the vehicle is parked at Central Police Station, awaiting a court order to auction the impounded charcoal.
