The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) soldiers have shot dead a local resident of Ogor Sub County in Otuke district who reportedly grabbed a gun from a soldier during night patrol.
Jimmy Oleng from Omwonyle village where the incident occurred told Voice of Lango FM that at around 02:00am today, UPDF soldiers went to patrol Apyen pwot trading center and arrested a group of youths who were found playing cards and tied them together with a single rope.
However, Amuku Jimmy a resident of Abur village, managed to cut the rope, grabbed a gun from one of the soldiers and took off with it up to the border of Agago district. He was however pursued by soldiers who shot him dead.
Jasper Okengo the LC3 chairman of Ogor Sub County said the Gombolola Internal Security Officer of Ogor Sub County informed him of the accident and they visited the crime scene this morning.
Okengo said the Officer in Charge Ogor police station confirmed that Amuku Jimmy and two others had been arrested by the army after being found playing cards at night.
Okengo decried drug abuse among the youths in his area which compels them to commit crimes.
Capt. Amos Nsamba, the fifth division army spokesperson by press time said he had not yet been informed about the matter but promised to follow it up for investigation.
