OPM delivers 30 tons of relief food to Oyam locals

The Office of the Prime Minister has donated 30 tonnes of relief food to the people of Oyam district, whose crops were destroyed by last year’s disasters.

The relief supplies include 20,000 tonnes of maize and 10,000 tonnes of beans, which will be distributed to residents of Abok, Ngai, Iceme, and Otwal sub counties.

Speaking at a preparatory meeting for the distribution of the relief food at the Oyam District Council Hall, the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Betty Amongi Akena, who is also the Oyam South MP, urged the district disaster committee to act swiftly in responding to disasters, thereby enabling prompt government assistance.

Dr Eunice Apio Otuku, the Member of Parliament for Oyam North, expressed her gratitude to the locals and leaders of Oyam for their efforts in advocating for the relief support.

Benson Walter Dilla, the LC5 Chairman of Oyam, thanked the government for the relief aid and assured that the food would be distributed to the affected communities.

Geoffrey Ogwal, a member of the Oyam District Development Committee, said approximately 792 households would benefit from the relief food, which will include 25.2 kg of beans and 12.6 kg of maize flour per household.

Philips Ogile Jakayo, the LC3 Chairman of Abok, also expressed his appreciation to the government for the relief assistance.
