Museveni roots for Unity as Hundreds flock Hoima for 29th Empango Celebrations

President Yoweri Museveni has called on all Bunyoro Kingdom leaders to play a crucial role to unite people for their sustainable development and economic empowerment. 

The President’s message was delivered on his behalf by Prime Minister Robinah Nabanja on Sunday at the celebrations to mark the 29th Coronation Anniversary of Bunyoro’s King, Dr. Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I, at the Kingdom Palace Karuziika in Hoima city. 

Locally known as Empango, the celebrations that commenced various week-long activities including the Empango run, has attracted hundreds of people and partners.

Prime Minister of Uganda Robinah Nabanja who delivered the speech of President Yoweri Museveni asked the Kingdom leadership to play a crucial role in enhancing unity among the subjects citing that the government is aiming at improving the livelihoods of the people towards self-efficiency and sustainability.

Museveni who donated 50 million shillings has also asked the leadership of the Kingdom to guard against infights but rather work together.

On her part, Nabanja donated 10 million shillings.

At the function, Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Matia Kasaija asked Bunyoro Kingdom subjects to embrace coffee farming for income generation and also focus on moving out of subsistence lifestyle.

It should be noted that Omukama Iguru was not in position to attend the anniversary due to his ill health.

In Omukama Iguru’s speech read for him by the Chief Prince (Okwir) Fred Mugenyi Rucunya, Iguru rallies the Kingdom subjects to shun barbaric acts like homosexuality that will cease cultural norms, further retaliating his call of hard work and also to embrace government programs.

Andrew Byakutaga, the Kingdom Prime Minister has hailed the government for supporting Bunyoro Kingdom across all aspects but reminded the government of the impending need to sign the Memorandum of Understanding for the return of the Kingdom’s property.

First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga, Buganda Kingdom’s Christopher Bwaniika, Margret Karunga (Omugo) the wife to Omukama Iguru, MPs under Bunyoro parliamentary caucus, leaders from in and outside Bunyoro also graced the function.
