PWDs raise red flag over their ownership rights violation, low gov’t funding

People with disabilities in Kibaale district have raised a red flag over being denied to own property like land by their family members, limited access to some buildings due to unfavorable construction designs, and low funding in the local council budgets.

William Kasaka, the Chairperson of Kibaale District Union for Persons with Disability, says the PWDs’ rights continue to be violated.

He made the revelation today during a one-day training on disability inclusion held at Starlight Hotel in Karuguuza Town, Kibaale Town Council, Kibaale district.

The National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda (NUDIPU) an indigenous umbrella NGO that advocates for the rights of persons with disabilities today organized a non-residential training on disability inclusion within the district to build capacity of selected technical staff in disability mainstreaming programs, planning and budgeting.

Deogratius Nuwagira from NUDIPU says that the selected stakeholders have undertaken different topics including disability categories, laws providing for persons with disabilities in Uganda, rights of persons with disabilities, disability and gender, disability responsive budgeting, disability analysis and mainstreaming among others.

Addressing the stakeholders, Kibaale RDC, Godwin Angalia Kasigwa notes that although there are still challenges being faced by the PWDs, there are PWDs Emyooga Sacco and PWDs that benefited in PDM are excelling hence imploring them to engage in IT business.

Dignitaries who attended the training, including, John Talagaboine the Senior Education Officer Kibaale, Beatrice Kyagondeze the team leader of HOCADEO Kibaale among others say that the training is timely since it has come up in the budgeting period across local governments.
