Kworo High School, Pader Campus, came alive on Saturday as students, parents, teachers, and district leaders gathered for a vibrant celebration that combined faith, achievement, and leadership.
The event featured a dedication service, prefects’ handover and swearing-in, confirmation of 74 girls, and a thanksgiving ceremony for the school’s recent accomplishments.
The day’s highlight was the confirmation of 74 girls by the Anglican Bishop of Kitgum Diocese, Rt. Rev. Wilson Kitara, who delivered a stirring sermon emphasising purpose, discipline, and spiritual growth.
Bishop Kitara urged students to embrace education as a lifelong journey, noting that success is determined not by age but by readiness and maturity of body, mind, and spirit.
“When the Spirit is in front and the body follows, you will walk in righteousness,” he reminded the students, encouraging them to combine academic diligence with moral and spiritual development.
Headteacher Ms. Atim Beatrice described the event as a celebration of unity and thanksgiving.
“Today, we have had a powerful celebration that included the swearing-in of new prefects, a welcome party for Senior One and Senior Five students, the celebration of eight trophies won by our girls, and a blessing for our Senior Four and Six candidates who begin exams on Monday,” she said.
Kworo High School currently hosts 805 girls and 47 staff members. Last year, all 83 Senior Four candidates passed in Division One, and the pioneer Senior Six class of five girls all qualified for university.
This year, 108 O-Level and 16 A-Level candidates are set to sit for national exams with high expectations of success.
Representing the District Education Officer, Senior Education Officer Ms. Rose Filder Lalam commended the school for its discipline, academic excellence, and moral integrity.
She urged teachers across the district to uphold examination integrity and ensure all learners, including pregnant and breastfeeding students, can sit for exams, emphasising that education is a right.
“Kworo is one of our best-performing schools. You are building both academic and co-curricular strength in Pader district,” she said.
She also appealed to striking teachers not to disrupt UNEB examinations.
Assistant RDC Komakech Robert Obina, representing the Office of the RDC and the Minister of State for Northern Uganda, Dr. Kenneth Omona, praised the school for its discipline and collaboration with authorities.
He recalled efforts to recover stolen school computers, highlighting the government’s commitment to student welfare.
“Leadership is not a joke. Take your responsibilities seriously we started as student leaders, and that’s where we are today,” he advised the newly sworn-in prefects.
Komakech also emphasised the importance of peaceful transitions in leadership, both at school and nationally, encouraging students to embrace responsibility and integrity.
Komakech, who is also a parent at Kworo, described the school as one of the most important institutions in the district, commending the headteacher for her leadership and the students for their humility and discipline.
The ceremony concluded with songs, dancing, and jubilation, celebrating the school’s achievements and sending best wishes to candidates preparing for national exams.
“Kworo High School is not just a school; it’s a family of excellence, faith, and discipline,” Komakech remarked.
