PADER, Uganda — Learning activities at Kibong Primary School in Paiula Sub-county, Pader District, have been severely disrupted after heavy rains submerged teachers’ houses and flooded surrounding communities.
A teacher at the school, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the situation as dire, noting that the floods have made it nearly impossible for staff to operate effectively.
“Teachers’ houses are flooded, and many of us have been forced to rent far from the school, which is now affecting teaching and learning,” she lamented.
Hon. Balex Okello, the Paiula Sub-county Councillor V, confirmed the extent of the destruction, naming Lamogi and Ogago parishes as the hardest-hit areas.
“Some teachers have resorted to digging water channels around their homes to prevent further destruction,” Okello said, adding that a detailed report has already been submitted to the Pader Chief Administrative Officer for urgent action.

In Pajule Sub-county, Komakech Charles, the area Councillor V, reported that several villages have also been affected by the torrential rains.
“The affected areas include Ociga West, Pongdwongo East, Ociga East, Lupara, Bungalela West, parts of Bungalela East in Oryang Parish, Alipan East, Angaro, and parts of Atipi Village in Otok Parish,” Komakech detailed.

Hon. Adonga Phillips Obalim, the Pader District Secretary for Education, acknowledged the growing crisis and confirmed that several teachers have vacated school quarters for fear of collapse.
He appealed to the district authorities to prioritize Kibong Primary School in the next financial year’s budget to support rehabilitation efforts.
“The situation is worsening. We need urgent intervention to restore learning and safeguard our teachers,” Obalim emphasized.
