Public resources damaged in Police–District vehicle accident in Agago

Two government vehicles were involved in a road accident today at Polcani Corner, located in Polcani Bunga Village, Polcani Parish, Lamiyo Sub county, Agago District, raising concerns about road safety, accountability, and the protection of public resources.

The accident involved the official vehicle of the Pader District LCV Chairperson, retired Colonel Fearless Obwoya Oyat, which he was driving to Agago District, registration number UG 3400212, and a police patrol vehicle, registration number UP 9769. The patrol vehicle was travelling towards Kitgum while transporting a transferred police officer and household belongings.

Speaking to our reporter, the Pader District Chairperson said that as he was driving to Agago, he noticed the police patrol vehicle approaching at high speed. He attempted to brake and stop, but the patrol vehicle collided with his car, causing damage to the left side of the vehicle.

Residents who witnessed the incident said the police patrol vehicle was moving at high speed despite the area being a sharp corner. They noted that Polcani Corner has long been considered dangerous, particularly for fast-moving vehicles, and called for increased caution by all drivers, including those operating government vehicles.

The involvement of two government vehicles has drawn attention to the use and safety of public property, with community members emphasising the need for responsibility and discipline among government drivers to avoid unnecessary damage to taxpayer-funded assets.

According to reports, no one was injured in the accident, although both vehicles sustained damage. The vehicles were later taken to Agago Central Police Station for inspection, with further action to be taken based on the findings.

By press time, police had not issued an official statement. However, the Agago District Police Commander, SP Omar Kokole, confirmed that he had been informed of the incident but had not yet received full details, as he was in Kitgum at the time the accident occurred.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing.
