Pader and Agago Districts announce LC V election results

Pader and Agago districts have announced the final results of the LC V Chairperson elections held on Thursday, 22 January 2026.

The results indicate a competitive contest in both districts, with winners emerging after votes were counted and verified.

In Pader District, the Electoral Commission recorded a total of 38,442 votes cast, of which 37,890 were valid and 552 were invalid.

Alfred Akena of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) was declared the winner after securing 20,779 votes, defeating four other candidates in the race.

Dickson Ojok of the Democratic Front came in second place with 6,977 votes.

The incumbent, retired Colonel Fearless Oboya Oyat, running as an Independent, received 4,895 votes, placing third.

Godfrey Oringa Larago, also an Independent, secured 4,373 votes, while Bernard Onen Okeny Akamba of the Uganda People’s Congress garnered 866 votes.

The results were officially declared by the District Returning Officer, Gimei Eric, after the counting process was completed across the district’s polling stations.

Following the declaration, Ongom Charles of Akemokoc in Pader Sub county expressed his delight at Akena’s victory, saying it gives hope to the local community.

He urged the newly elected chairperson to prioritise clean water projects for the residents of Pader Sub county.

In Agago District, a total of 50,169 votes were recorded. Independent candidate Otto Wilson won the LC V Chairperson seat with 26,855 votes, representing 53.53% of the total vote.

His closest rival, Leonard Aleo Ojok of the NRM, received 20,898 votes, accounting for 41.66% of the votes cast.

Lillian Gertrude Abalo of the National Unity Platform (NUP) came third with 2,416 votes, representing 4.82% of the total.

The Agago election also recorded 654 invalid votes, which were not counted towards any candidate.

The results from these two districts contribute to the wider national exercise for LC V chairpersons and councillors, held across the country.
