Chairperson Awach Sub County Hospitalized After Being Hacked by Lover with A Panga

The LC3 chairperson Awach sub-county in Abim district, Lucy Akidi is currently fighting for her life after she was allegedly hacked with a panga by her lover.

The incident took place on Monday evening at around 11pm at her home in Barlyech parish, Awach sub-county, Abim district.

According to reports, the leaders, who had had a long-standing dispute with the lover, got involved in a domestic fight, where the lover later reportedly picked a panga and hacked her head, leaving her unconscious with a deep cut

Bismark Okello, the district councilor representing Orwamuge sub-county, that borders Awach, says after an alert from her neighbors, they immediately rushed to the scene, where they got her lying unconscious in a pool of blood, adding that they later evacuated her to Orwamuge health Centre 3, before being transferred to Abim main hospital.

He says the suspect only identified as Opio denied any wrong doing but was picked up by the army and is currently detained in Barlyech UPDF detach

John Bosco Okello, the district councilor representing Awach sub-county confirmed the incident, saying the chairperson is currently nursing injuries at Abim main hospital.

Okello says domestic violence is very common in his sub-county, attributing it to alcoholism, Further advising families to always seek peaceful means of settling conflicts.

The Abim district police commander, Peter Akampurira, when contacted by our reporter, said he was out of office but promised to get back to us with full details of the incident.
