Fire has destroyed a total of 24 grass thatched houses in Lomukura village, Thiwakol parish, Nakapelimoru sub county, Kotido district.
The fire which was reportedly set by a 3-year-old child left many people homeless and counting losses.
Lucia Modo one of the victims claims that she lost one bag of sorghum and about 580,000 PDM funds she received from government. Modo explained that she was at the grinding mill at the time of the incident.
Hellen Iteba another victim and mother of the child says she was informed about the unfortunate incident while at Kapusany settlement camp. She too claims that she lost about 550,000shs which was also part of the PDM funds she received recently.
Paul Logwe the area LC1 told our reporter that they were alerted by screams from the area residents for rescue. He adds that they tried different measures to contain the fire in vain.
Fred Labeja the Thiwakol parish chief advises parents especially mothers to desist from leaving their children unattended to. He also appeals for support from well-wishers, the local government, and local leaders saying the communities are already vulnerable.
Many homes in Karamoja always get burnt by wild fire whenever it reaches dry season due to rampant hunting of rats by the locals in the region.
