The District Health Officer of Kotido, Dr. Cerino Achar, has reiterated that motivation is key to effective public service delivery.
His comments follow an award he received in November as the Best DHO in the Karamoja sub-region for service delivery in 2024. He was recognised by USAID, although its aid has been suspended for 90 days by US President Donald Trump’s executive order, pending review.
Dr. Achar stated that the award has further motivated him to raise the bar for service delivery. He acknowledged that this achievement was not accomplished alone but through teamwork among all the workers in the department under his leadership.
Service delivery was assessed based on the performance of health units, the availability of a referral system, the upgrading of health centres, meetings, disease surveillance, public awareness, and other indicators.
Dr. Achar expressed that the award is a ‘thank you for the good work done’ to all the health workers.
Last year, USAID, IDI, and the Ministry of Health recognised three health centres for their excellent performance in TB treatment and management. The facilities honoured include Kacheri Health Centre III, Rengen, and Nakapelimoru Health Centres. Kotido ranked 4th on the National League Table for the FY 2021/2022, an outstanding national performance, thanks to the commitment to improving health service delivery.
