Kotido Secondary School authorities have taken steps to block students with outstanding debts from accessing their Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results electronically once they are released by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).

Emmanuel Lokedi, the head teacher of Kotido SS, speaking to our reporter on Monday from his office, explained that the decision follows the accumulation of outstanding debts by UCE students who sat their exams in 2024, amounting to 32 million Uganda shillings.

In 2024, Kotido SS registered 194 candidates under the new curriculum and 73 candidates under the old curriculum. Lokedi stated that the school had allowed the students to sit their exams and pay the fees later, enabling them to access their results for the continuation of their studies.

Lokedi confirmed that the school has contacted UNEB and instructed them to block students from Kotido SS from accessing their results electronically until they settle their outstanding debts.

However, he added that students sponsored by other organisations or those who have cleared their balances will be able to access their results upon obtaining clearance from the bursar.

Lokedi also stated that the school is currently operating with limited resources after spending a significant amount on materials and reagents for the third-term examinations.

As a result, the school has been forced to scale down some of its activities. He further noted that the authorities are exploring ways to recover all outstanding debts to ensure the smooth operation of the school. He appealed to parents to settle their dues to avoid inconveniencing their children.

UNEB has confirmed that the results are set to be released tomorrow, Tuesday, 12th February 2025, at State House Nakasero.
