The residents of Maaru Sub County in Kotido district are struggling to access clean water after the only borehole serving the area broke down.
According to the residents they now trek for nearly 4 kilometers to access clean water from the neighboring villages of Nakoreto, Nadomeo, Kaalemu-arengan and Lokiboboni. Similar complaints have been raised in almost all the sub counties in the district.
Peter Namuya a grinding machine operator says that his business has been affected since he needs water to run his machines. He now wants the district authorities to intervene
Primina Nyanga, Maria Loma, Cicilia Namoe and Martina Namuya some of the business women brewing Ebutya say that they have not been able to do business since the borehole broke down last Friday. According to the women each household has been tasked to contribute at least 2000shs for the repair of the borehole.
Paul Adia the LCIII of Maaru sub county says that there is need for every household to contribute at least 500 shillings every month so that the water problem is solved in the sub county.
