A government-issued motorcycle belonging to the LC3 Chairperson of Pukor subcounty, Mr. Ojwini Richard, was stolen on Friday evening under mysterious circumstances in Pader town.

The motorcycle, bearing registration number UG 4236R, was reportedly taken between 8:30 PM and 9:00 PM from where it had been parked outside Alikin Hotel along Ey Komakech Road.

Speaking to Rapa FM reporters on Saturday morning, Mr. Ojwini confirmed that he had just filed a formal theft complaint at Pader Central Police Station, where investigations are currently underway to trace the motorcycle and apprehend the culprits.
The case has been officially recorded at Pader CPS under SD REF 08/28/7/2025, with the offense classified as theft. The complainant is Richard Ojwini, and the suspect remains unknown at this time.

While the motive behind the theft remains unclear, Ojwini suspects that the incident may be politically motivated, citing threats to his life during the recent NRM party primary elections.

“This is not just an ordinary theft. I strongly feel it may be linked to political tensions. I was recently targeted during the party primaries, and now this,” Ojwini said, visibly shaken.

The LC3 Chairperson said he is traumatised by the incident, noting that the motorcycle was not only government property but also essential for his official duties in the subcounty.

Authorities have reminded public officials that they are legally responsible for government property under their care.

“According to Uganda’s Public Service Standing Orders and the Anti-Corruption Act of 2009, any public officer found to have negligently lost government property can be held personally liable, surcharged, or even prosecuted in court. If proven to have caused financial loss or abused their office, they risk dismissal, fines, or imprisonment of up to 10 years,”.

Police have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any relevant information that could aid the investigation to the nearest police post or station.

The theft has raised security concerns among local leaders, especially those actively involved in politics, with many calling for improved protection of public officials and government resources.

This incident marks another blow to local governance, where logistical resources like motorcycles are crucial for accessing remote areas and delivering services.
