Kitgum Mission Parish on Sunday commissioned a new Parish Executive Council during a solemn Mass marking the Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time.

The newly inaugurated council will be headed by Parish Priest Monsignor Rev. Fr. Vincent Ojok Adot, ushering in what church leaders described as a renewed chapter of service and development for the parish community.

The executive council draws its membership from a cross-section of professionals and experienced leaders within the parish.

Among them is Dr. Atim Pamela Okot, Medical Director of St Joseph’s Hospital, alongside active teachers, social workers, and retired senior educationists who previously served as headteachers.

Notable members include Mr. Odwong E. Phillip, Mr. Okello Geoffrey, and Mrs. Leofrida Odora, who assumes the role of Vice Chairperson of the council.

The commissioning ceremony was presided over by Parish Curate Rev. Fr. Raymond Okot, assisted by Brother Isaac of the St. Martin de Porres Congregation.

In his homily, Rev. Fr. Okot urged the newly sworn-in executives to commit themselves to advancing the spiritual and structural growth of the parish.

He emphasized the importance of upholding Catholic Christian values and working closely with the diocese to promote unity and orderly movement within the Church.

“The leadership entrusted to you is a call to service,” he said. “Support the Church in championing growth and development while remaining faithful to the teachings and mission of the Catholic faith.”

The Mass drew a large congregation, including religious sisters, the Prime Minister of Ker Kwaro Labongo, other dignitaries, and more than 500 parishioners who braved the chilly morning weather to witness the occasion.

Speaking on behalf of the newly commissioned executives, Vice Chairperson Mrs. Leofrida Odora said the council had reflected on the diverse experience within its membership and pledged to utilize their professional expertise for effective parish governance.

“We shall employ the skills and talents we acquired during our years of service, particularly in the education sector, to govern and guide the parish under the leadership of the Parish Priest,” she said.

Mrs. Odora also noted that the council would seek spiritual guidance through the intercession of the Blessed Daudi Okello and Jildo Irwa, who were baptized at Kitgum Mission Parish before spreading the Catholic faith in Paimol.

The commissioning marks a significant milestone for Kitgum Mission Parish as it positions itself for continued growth in faith, service, and community development.
