Kotido district council approves transition of Kotido PTC into Gulu University

Kotido district council sitting on Friday the 17th February 2023 approved the transition of Kotido Primary Teachers College-PTC into Gulu University constituent college-Kotido campus.

Following the government’s resolution of phasing out grade 3 teachers in Uganda, 23 non-core primary teachers colleges (PTC) as it moves to implement the 2019 national teachers’ policy which requires all teachers to have a degree. Kotido PTC was closed with the last intake sitting in 2022.

Lowari Angelo Kotido DEO said the education policy was found out to improve the quality of education in Uganda, teachers at all levels should advance to senior 6 and be admitted for a degree program at a University.

Dr Sidonia Angom, the chairperson task force Gulu University constituent college-Moroto while addressing the councilors said that with all the infrastructure in the place, Kotido campus is set to commence operations in August this year.

John Openy-Juru the Vice chancellor Gulu University, says the campus will start off in August with the Faculty of Education and humanities which will benefit a projected 1,427 Grade 3 teachers across Karamoja sub region and the neighboring Teso, Lango and Acholi regions.
