The Pader Town Council Boda Boda Association on Friday, 3 October, installed a new leadership team at a colourful ceremony held at New Oasis Club, marking a new chapter in the organisation’s journey towards professionalism, unity, and growth.
Mr Boniface Okot Oringa was sworn in as the new Chairperson, succeeding Mr Robert Oneka, who now serves as the overall Chairperson of the Pader District Boda Boda Association.
Oringa, who previously served as Vice Chairperson for two terms, pledged to build on the strong foundation laid by his predecessor.
“I am grateful for the trust the members have shown in me,” Mr Oringa said. “We shall work hand in hand with the outgoing team and all members to ensure the association achieves its goals of safety, discipline, and financial stability.”
The new leadership team includes Patrick Lumumba (General Secretary), John Okullu (Finance), Donald Okwera (Health Officer), Peter Okot Konypaco (Stage Master), James Akena Ojara (Speaker), Simon Okello (Chairperson Disciplinary), Francis Nyeko (Head of Disaster), Danish Afesa Okello (Loan Officer), Patrick Nyok Ojara (Head of Security), and Vella Okeny (Mobiliser).
Outgoing Chairperson Mr Oneka, who was applauded for steering the association through two successful terms, congratulated the new team and urged members to maintain unity.
“Leadership is service,” Mr Oneka said. “What we began together should continue in peace and cooperation so that the association keeps growing.”
Guest of Honour Akena Alfred, the NRM flag bearer for the Pader LCV seat, praised the outgoing leadership for its hard work and called on the new executive to prioritise accountability and collaboration.
“You have shown that unity among riders brings respect and recognition,” Mr Akena said. “I urge the new leaders to work closely with their predecessors to make the association stronger and more organised.”
The ceremony was also attended by SP Jackson Bogere, the Pader District Police Commander (DPC), who commended the riders for maintaining discipline and low crime rates in the town.
“In Pader, I have seen an exemplary group of boda boda riders,” SP Bogere remarked. “Unlike in Kampala, we rarely record cases of motorcycle theft or fights among riders here. That discipline must continue.”
He encouraged the formation of structured groups, or “circles”, to enhance organisation and visibility, adding that riders would play a vital role in maintaining peace and security during the upcoming political events.
“As we prepare to host major events such as the President’s visit, I am counting on you to help maintain order, manage crowds, and keep our community safe,” the DPC said.
Pride Bank Pader Branch Manager, Brian Kambugu, also addressed the gathering, unveiling financial opportunities for riders, including soft loans starting from UGX 500,000 to purchase motorcycles with insurance and tracking support.
“We want to empower you to own your motorcycles and operate safely,” the bank manager said. “Through savings and organised associations, you can grow beyond daily income and build lasting financial security.”
The installation ceremony concluded with renewed optimism as riders, leaders, and stakeholders pledged to strengthen professionalism and cooperation in Pader’s transport sector.
“Our association is more than just transport — it is a community,” Mr Oringa concluded. “Together, we shall ride towards progress and dignity.”
