Over 200 suspected criminals arrested in Lira City

Police of Lira City has arrested 243 suspected criminals in Lira city within a spate of one week.

North Kyoga regional police spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema while addressing journalists at Lira central police station said they launched an operation in Lira city on 6 February which is ongoing to weed out criminals who are way laying people at night and breaking into houses.

The operations were conducted in areas of Teso Bar, Jinja camp, Odokomit, and Ober in Lira city west division among others.

He said out of the 243 suspected criminals, 126 were screened, arraigned in court and remanded at Lira central government prison while 47 others who pleaded guilty were sentenced to three years in prison.
