Gov’t to increase IGG funding to support corruption investigation

The third deputy Prime Minister, Rukia Nakadama has revealed government’s intention to increase funding to the Inspectorate of Government to support investigation of corruption cases.

Nakadama made the revelation at the launch of declaration of wealth of public servants held at Lira city mayor’s garden today.

She said the declaration of wealth of public servants is meant to make them accountable to the public.

Nakadama said government will increase funding to the IGG to ease the fight against corruption.

The Inspector General of Government, Beti Olive Namisango Kamya asked the public to name some public servants who have amassed wealth through corruption so that the funds can be recovered to support development.

She further asked LC1s to identify suspects linked with corruption since most of them tend to return to their villages after engaging in the vice for action to be taken against them.

Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria the deputy inspector general of government noted that most leaders in Lango are relaxed on declaring their wealth much as the leadership code Act requires them to do so after every two years.

Lira district LCV chairman, Richard Cox Max Okello Orik called for increment of salaries and allowances of district and local leaders as a measure to curb corruption since some of the leaders are tempted to engage in corruption due to low pay.

Lira Resident City Commissioner, Lira Lawrence Egole asked the IGG to investigate relatives of public servants who could be hiding their wealth attained through corruption.

 

Lango parliamentary group chairperson also Kole district woman MP Judith Alyek Odongo blamed poor infrastructures like roads and hospitals on corrupt leaders.
