LC3 chairpersons in Lango want government to recall former Amuka militia group to fight Karamojong cattle rustlers.

This comes as the Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF soldiers have deployed at the border of Otuke district and Karamoja in areas of Ogwete, Olilim and Ogor Sub Counties where cattle theft by suspected Karamojong cattle rustlers has been prominent.

Ogor Sub County Chairman, Okengo Jaspher said he liaised with the UPDF and some leaders to have the army deployed in areas prone to attacks by Karamojong cattle rustlers in Otuke.

However, Okengo said the cattle rustlers are still finding their way into Otuke district which calls for deployment of Amuka militia to fight them.

LC3 chairpersons under Lango LC3 Chairpersons’ association in their meeting held at Pacific Grand Hotel on 1/03/2023 resolved to request government to call up the former Amuka militia to support the fight against Karamojong cattle rustlers according to the association chairperson Simon Obong Opio.

However, the fifth division army spokesperson Capt. Amos Nsamba said those who want to support security efforts in Uganda should join the UPDF.

In a meeting of LC3 chairpersons from Acholi, Lango and Karamoja held in Kalongo, Kitgum district last year it was resolved that government arms the youth to fight cattle rustlers.

Amuka as militia group that was formed in Lango was instrumental in the fight against the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) alongside the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) from 2003 to 2004.
