Politicians accused of fighting Lango cooperative union

The board chairperson, Lango Cooperative Union also Maruzi County MP, in Apac district, Maxwell Akora has accused some politicians in Lango of fighting hard to cause the collapse of Lango Cooperative Union.

Maxwell Akora made the remarks at the Annual General Meeting of Lango Cooperative Union held at the union offices in Railway ward, Lira city east division.

He said they were supposed to receive some funds from ministry of finance, but some politicians are allegedly fighting to block this move.

Akora said this financial year, they plan to establish a water processing plant worth 1 billion shillings to benefit saccos under Lango Cooperative Union.

He said they expect to receive from government 12 billion shillings to support the development of the cooperative union.

Ambrose Mugweri, the cooperative Officer, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives who represented minister of trade and Registrar of Cooperatives said government plans to reinstate the cooperative bank that was closed in 1997.

Mugweri warned against intrigue which may lead to the collapse of the Lango cooperative union.

At the Annual General Meeting, members of Lango Cooperative Union also approved their budget for 2023/2024 financial year worth over 3 billion shillings.

Hellen Angom, a member of Lango Cooperative Union from Acaba Sub County in Oyam district called for financial support to the union members in rural areas to alleviate poverty among them.

Umar Atim Juma from Loro Town Council said Lango Cooperative Union should use its budget to support the development of Lango sub region as a whole

Wacio Dickens from Apac District said the budget approved by the union is viable but needs some bit of scrutiny to implement.
