Second edition of Miss Lango beauty pageant launched

A road map for the second edition of Miss Lango Beauty contest has been launched with picking of nomination forms for interested contestants. The inaugural edition was held in 2022.

The Chief Executive Officer-CEO of Miss Lango Beauty Pageant, Among Shakila while speaking at the launch of the event yesterday at Pacific grand Hotel-Lira city said after selection, the nominees will traverse tourism sites in Lango and promote them to the outside world.

Among these tourist sites include; Kungu in Apac district where the first missionaries who came to Lango camped, Kangai in Dokolo district where Kabaka Mwanga of Buganda and Omukama of Kabalega were arrested while fleeing British rule, Tyen-Olum (Olum footprints) in Ibuje, Apac district, Uganda’s first Olympic gold medalist, John Akii Bua’s grave and the home of Okello Field marshal in Alebtong district, Barlonyo massacre site in Lira district, Otuke hill in Otuke district where the first Lango people settled after migration among others.

After this, the contestants will enter a boot camp for two weeks where they will be assessed on their knowledge on Lango culture.

The reigning Miss Lango, Angom Deborah Elizabeth said she was able to get free education scholarship after winning this beauty pageant and she has written books on Lango culture and norms.

Angom said she has also been working with students to promote Lango culture, through drama, innovation challenge, and promoting mental health campaigns.
