President Museveni warns people of northern Uganda against sale of land to Balalo pastoralists

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has cautioned people of northern Uganda against the sale of customary land to Balalo pastoralists.

Museveni while addressing leaders from Lango at Baralegi state lodge in Okwang Sub County, Otuke district yesterday said he had directed the eviction of the Balalo pastoralists from northern Uganda, but it was surprising to realize that the pastoralists have again started buying land in the region.

He said any pastoralist who buys customary land in northern Uganda will automatically lose it.

Concerning people who lost lives, property and were injured during Karamojong insurgency, the president directed the state minister of northern Uganda to collect data of the affected people for support of food aid and free education for their children.

About leadership wrangles with PAG Uganda and Yaweh Pentecostal ministries, Museveni promised to mediate the two parties.

He cautioned against the act of churches splitting up with the aim of confiscating property owned together.

Dokolo district woman MP Cecilia Atim Ogwal called for upgrade of health facilities, improving of road networks, promotion of army officers from Lango and appointment of women in big positions in the army among others.

Today the president will meet leaders of Karamoja sub-region.
