Man arrested in Otuke for gambling away PDM cash

Police in Otuke district has arrested a local of Otuke Town Council for misusing Parish Development Model (PDM) funds in gambling.

Otuke District chairman Francis Abola confirmed the arrest of James Okwany, saying that the suspect received one million shillings under PDM but returned home and lost all the money in playing cards.

Okwany had reportedly wanted to gain more money to top up on what he had received under PDM through gambling.

Abola adds that Okwany 40, will be arraigned in court for trial for abuse of a government program.

Otuke District Police Commander, Sabila Sadat who had just returned to office from leave said he had not received reports about Okwany’s arrest by press time.

Last month, Otuke District local government received 4.2 billion shillings to finance 60 Parish Development Model saccos across the district.
