Lira district receives Shs.53 million under GROW project

Ministry of gender, labor and social development has given Lira district 53.3 million to support women led businesses under Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW) project.

At the national celebrations to commemorate the international women’s day in Katakwi district yesterday, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Minister of gender, labor and social development  Betty Amongi unveiled a dummy cheque of 9.4 billion shillings before leaders of Lira, Kaabong, Katakwi and Amuria to support 1,322 groups under GROW project.

Lira district got 53.3 million shillings, Katakwi, received 41.1 million shillings, Kaabong got 248 million shillings and Amuria got 72.5million million shillings respectively.

President Museveni also signed a document in which ministry of gender had an MoU with government agencies and development partners that include; Uganda industrial research institute, Uganda National Bureau of standards, Diary development authority, Ministry of agriculture, NARO, Uganda registration services bureau and Uganda export promotion board among others that have supported women enterprise growth.

Amongi called for equal rights for women to inherit their spouses’ property.

She also decried a wide gap in in wealth creation among women as compared to men.
