Gov’t to increase LCI monthly ex-gratia pay to 50,000 shillings

Government plans to increase LC1 and LC2 monthly ex-gratia payments from shs10, 000 to 50, 000 shillings in the 2024/2025 financial year.

Minister of Local Government, Rafael Magyezi revealed the development during the commissioning of shs1.2 billion piped water project installed by his ministry in Alanyi, Abako Sub County and at a market being established in Alebtong Town Council at shs.300 million.

Magyezi also said Sub County councilors will on the other hand begin getting Shs100, 000 monthly pay.

He said he will also forward to Parliament, a proposal to have new Sub Counties and town councils given 50 million shillings to support their development.

Magyezi further stated said the piped water project was installed under the Local Economic Growth support Project financed by the World Bank.

Government chief whip also Ajuri County MP, Denis Hamson Obua said he will table before government request for another piped water project to benefit Amugo and Ajuri markets.

Alebtong district woman MP, Docus Acen said the district has received shs 500 million of the 1 billion shillings road maintenance funds from government which will be used to improve the status of roads in the district.

Alebtong District LCV Chairman DK Odongo said the piped water project will also benefit Alanyi health center, Alanyi P7 and St Thereza Girls SS-Alanyi among others.

LC1 and LC2’s currently receive shs10, 000 monthly ex-gratia pay, totaling to shs120, 000 shillings annually.

With the proposed increment, the village bosses will now earn shs600, 000 annually in ex-gratia.
