Lango escapes liability for shattered FUFA drum trophy

Lango province will not be liable for the costs of the shattered FUFA drum trophy, which was damaged in a vehicle accident on 25 May. FUFA President Moses Hassim Magogo confirmed that the federation has already replaced the trophy and no compensation will be required.

Lango will not be responsible for covering the costs of the FUFA drum trophy, which was shattered on 25 May 2024, in an accident. The incident occurred when a Coaster vehicle, registration number UBL 851Z, owned by Dokolo School of Nursing and Midwifery, was transporting Lango province players from a friendly match in Dokolo district.

This clarification was provided on 19 July 2024, during a consultative meeting with FUFA regional delegates for Lango at Lira hotel. FUFA President Moses Hassim Magogo dismissed rumours that the prize money Lango province has not yet received from FUFA would be used to cover the costs of the damaged trophy.

Magogo stated that the damaged trophy was used for the last time in the 4th edition of the FUFA drum competition. He assured that FUFA has already bought a new trophy and confirmed that no one would be held accountable for the damaged one.

Magogo emphasised that the federation is travelling across the country to engage with grassroots football organisers in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th divisions. He said the aim is to explain FUFA’s direction, the introduction of new programmes, and regulations. He added that FUFA also seeks to understand the challenges local football organisers face in implementing football activities in their regions.

Moses Opio, Chairman of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Northern region, stated that the meeting provided a way forward to address ongoing challenges. He mentioned that the role confusion between the district sports officers and the district football association has been resolved.

Opio also noted that there are still no guidelines on what will happen if a trophy gets damaged again in the future. He called for calm now that the issue has been resolved.

Charles Opio Olol, the Coordinator of Lango province, who was accused of being responsible for the damage, called for unity in football. He expressed relief after FUFA President Magogo confirmed that no compensation was required for the trophy.
