A measles outbreak has been reported in Nambieso Sub County, Kwania District, with the district health department confirming four cases of the disease.
The affected areas include Aburukango, Adogwanga, and Etekiber A — all located in Etekiber Parish, Nambieso Sub County.
Tony Egwar, a resident of Etekiber A, has called for mass sensitization efforts and increased measles vaccination to protect children, who are the most vulnerable to the disease.
According to David Okino, the District Health Officer of Kwania, the outbreak was first reported two weeks ago.
He said samples from five individuals suspected of the disease were collected and sent to the central government laboratory Kampala for testing and four of them returned positive results for measles.
Ambrose Okori, the LC3 chairman of Nambieso Sub County, confirmed the outbreak and revealed that one child is suspected to have died from the disease last week.
He urged the public to embrace measles vaccination to safeguard themselves and their communities.
