MP Dr. Emely launches economic programme in Buyanja east

Buyanja east MP Dr. Emely Kugonza launches ‘Kanzali Economic Empowerment Programme’ to boost prosperity.

The initiative will cover six Subcounties in Buyanja east, Kibaale district: Nyamarwa, Karama, Matale, Kayanja, Kyebando, and Kasimbi.

Addressing selected stakeholders, including LC1 chairpersons, political coordinators, religious leaders, and technical staff at the launch this week, Dr. Emely stated the programme is a village based development initiative for Buyanja east constituency led by him.

Dr. Emely revealed that this initiative will empower individuals and groups in the constituency with development knowledge, skills, and resources, aiming to create a local financial vehicle for funding individual, family, and group projects through the formation of savings and credit groups.

Dr. Emely stated that the programme also encourages the formation of savings and credit groups, modern farming of coffee, vegetables, fruits, piggery, poultry, and homestead improvement.

Dr. Emely handed over record keeping books, including ledger books, passbooks, and constitutions, tasking the concerned authorities to form Kanzali savings and credit groups in each village before July 1st. The membership fee is 10,000 shillings.

Stakeholders have promised to mobilise residents to ensure the initiative thrives and positively impacts the economic lives of the people.

The Kanzali savings and credit groups will consist of 7 management committee members: chairperson, vice chairperson, secretary, treasurer, mobilizer, and 2 committee members. They will save weekly and offer loans at 2% interest, among other activities.
