Minister Kasaija, local gov’t leaders commission UGX 2.7bn road projects

Minister of Finance Matia Kasaija, who is also Buyanja County MP, today joined Kibaale district local government leaders in a joint commissioning exercise of various roads after periodic maintenance across the district.
The three roads that have undergone extended periodic maintenance were launched early this year after Minister Kasaija lobbied 2.7 billion shillings from Uganda Road Fund.
The roads that have been completed and commissioned include the 8km Nyamarunda-Nyanswiiga-Kahaara-Mbirizi-Kyanyi road, which connects Nyamarunda town council to Nyamarunda subcounty. This road was constructed by AZU Properties LTD at a tune of over 315.6 million shillings for a contracted period of 6 months.
Other roads commissioned are, the 12km Kabasekende-Ngerebwe-Kaihamaino-Bakijurura-Rwamagando-Ruboona road, costing over 641.5 million shillings in Kabasekende subcounty, and the 9.6km Kisega-Kasambya-Buhumi-Kikaada road in Bwamiramira subcounty at over 438.1 million shilllings. all constructed by MUGA Services LTD.
In his remarks, Minister Kasaija urged the area local leaders to institute a committee to oversee the rehabilitated roads so that they are maintained through community development works. He also warned the youths against over speeding, which can lead to accidents and loss of lives.
Kibaale Woman MP Noeline Kisembo Basemera congratulated residents upon receiving an improved road network. She asked the district engineers to always draft proper accounting of the Bills of Quantities before awarding contracts to contractors as sometimes they request for extra culvert lines outside of contracts.
For his part, John Katotoroma, the CAO Kibaale, commended the teamwork and lobbying capacity efforts by the district leaders, led by Finance Minister Matia Kasaija. He assured residents that any defects that have been observed will be rectified in the defect liability period.
Delighted residents praised the district leadership for their excellent service delivery, noting that the rehabilitated roads will ease the transport of their merchandise to local markets.
The commissioning exercise was also witnessed by the Kibaale RDC Godwin Angalia Kasigwa, among others.
