Police in Kibaale District have arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of murdering his 49-year-old neighbor in Rubona Village, Rwamagando Parish, Kyakazihire Sub-county.
The suspect has been identified as Nsabimana Rukara, while the deceased is Aminah Tumwebaze his neighbor both residents of the same area.
Residents, led by Yosia Musinguzi, the Rubona male parish councilor, and Janipher Gensi, the Rwamagando female parish councilor, say the deceased met her fate at around 7:30 p.m on Monday evening when she went to retrieve her goats from the grazing field.
Residents noticed that the goats were returning without her and they decided to launch a search and later discovered her lifeless body in a nearby bush where the goats had been grazing and they alerted police of Kyakazihire Police Station who swung into action.
However, residents express dissatisfaction with the police response, claiming that officers arrived at around midnight and advised them to spend the night at the scene with the deceased’s body.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that the deceased who is also the neighbor had disagreements with Nsabimaana after she connected him with unidentified woman the latter had married but later divorced.
It is alleged that upon divorcing the suspect the unidentified woman had been hiding at the residence of the deceased as Nsabimaana kept on demanding for her return.
However, upon interrogation while at Kibaale Police Central Station, Nsabimaana dismissed the reports.
Nestoli Ndagizimana, the Kyakazihire Sub-county LC3 Chairperson has condemned the act urging residents to report disputes to the relevant authorities instead of taking the law into their own hands.
Reacho Wakoli, the Kibaale District CID says investigations into the matter have commenced.
