Somber mood as residents mourn Kaisekenkere Primary School teachers

Grief and a somber mood have engulfed Kaisekenkere Primary School and the neighboring community as residents and bereaved families of two teachers who died in a tragic accident prayed for the deceased.

On Monday evening, shockwaves swept through Kibaale District after a speeding Isuzu lorry knocked dead two teachers, John Baptist Barongo, 26, a resident of Kakayo Village in Kasambya Subcounty, Kakumiro District, and John Sekate, 29, from Rwamagando Village in Kabasekende Subcounty, Kibaale District, both attached to Kaisekenkere Primary School in Matale Subcounty.

The accident happened at around 8:50 pm along the Kibaale–Kakumiro Highway at Mbaya, a few metres from Hakabanda Trading Centre, where an Isuzu lorry registration number UA 956 DA, which was transporting timber, reportedly knocked the teachers who were riding on a Bajaj motorcycle registration number UFM 033 U.

During a requiem Mass organised by the school administrators at the school premises, the chaplain of Buseesa Catholic Parish, Rev. Fr. John Bosco Mugisa, together with Rev. Fr. Godfrey Kisembo, the parish priest of Buseesa Catholic Parish, assisted by Rev. Fr. Charles Asaba, the head teacher of St. Kirigwaijo Secondary School, joined grieving teachers to honor the fallen colleagues.

In a postmortem report, Dr. Andrew Kasangaki of Kibaale Health Centre IV confirmed that the teachers died due to acute respiratory failure following injuries sustained in the accident.

Scolastica Kugonza, who spoke on behalf of the school director Dr. Emely Kugonza, condoled with the bereaved families, describing the deceased as dedicated educationists.

After the requiem Mass, the bodies of the fallen teachers were transported to their respective homes where they are expected to be laid to rest tomorrow. The wreckages of the Bajaj Boxer and Isuzu lorry are currently parked at Karuguuza Police Station and Kibaale Central Police Station.
