Police in Kibaale district are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 40-year-old man, identified as Michael Byaruhanga, a resident of Muziizi village in Nyamarunda subcounty, who was stabbed last night.

It is alleged that Byaruhanga met his tragic end on Friday night at around 11pm when he went to speak with his second wife, Varantina Mukamaana, 29, who had divorced him four months earlier and was renting a room at the commercial house of one Fred Kwetonda in Kitooga trading centre, Nyamarunda subcounty.

According to information from residents, upon arriving at his former wife’s rental room, Byaruhanga found another unidentified man in the room, reportedly in an intimate encounter. This led to a confrontation, during which the unidentified man allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed Byaruhanga in the chest, killing him instantly.

Jonas Sebiriko, the LCI Chairperson for Kitooga village, stated that the suspect fled the scene after killing Byaruhanga. However, Mukamaana has been arrested and is currently detained at Nyamarunda Police Post to assist with the investigation.

Sebiriko lamented the increasing number of women who have divorced their husbands and are now reportedly engaging in relationships with multiple men in their rented rooms in Kitooga trading centre.

Area district councillors, including Philips Bikora, Madrine Kwikiriza, and Erasmus Ndinaruhanga, the LC3 Chairperson of Nyamarunda subcounty, have condemned the heartless act, raising a red flag over the growing cases of criminality in Bujogoro parish. They have called for urgent security interventions to address the issue.
