Akura seed secondary school in Akura Sub County, Alebtong district is grappling with inadequate teachers’ accommodation and office facilities.

The chairperson, Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) of Akura seed secondary school, Wilbert Awil says they have been forced share classes with pupils of Alira primary school while the school head teacher and staff sit under trees due to lack of offices.

Awil who spoke to journalists while receiving 20 bags of cement donated by the secretary, National youth council also the youth representative at the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Sam Ogwal said the school is also running without a library and laboratory.

But despite these challenges, Awil said educational performance at the school has remained top notch as all senior four candidates who sat at the school last year passed the Uganda Certificate of Education exams.

Lujino Ogweng, a member of the school board of governors said they are failing to admit more students who are interested in joining the school due to lack of facilities to aid effective learning.

He expressed excitement with the cement donated by Sam Ogwal to support the school but called for concerted effort from across the board in improving the status of the school.

David Kennedy Odongo, the LCV chairman of Alebtong district said they are not in position to construct structures at the school as they are constrained by government policies.

He said the area MPs should take charge of informing government on challenges facing the school for action.

Odongo added that they will hold a fundraising to solicit funds to support construction of structures at the school as they wait for intervention from ministry of education and sports whose officials plan to visit the school in the near future.
