King James SS students strike over confiscation of phones, non-uniforms

Students of King James Comprehensive Secondary school in Lira city yesterday evening went on strike to protest a move by the school authorities to confiscate their phones and non-uniforms.

The strike that started with students rejecting food later turned violent after they resorted to throwing stones on top of roofs at the school. The school authority were forced to call in police to restore order.

Bernard Ogwang, the LCI chairman of Ongica B cell, Anai Ward, Lira City West Division where the school is located confirmed the students’ strike.

North Kyoga region police spokesperson, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema said police was able to quell the strike although many school property were destroyed.

Effort to speak to the administration of King James SS on the matter was futile by press time. This is the third students’ strike registered in Lango in a spate of one week. Other schools where strikes were reported include; Akii Bua SS and Akura SS in Alebtong district.
