A total of 6,557 cattle have been vaccinated against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in Lira city. Dr Nelson Okello, the Veterinary Officer of Lira city, reported that 4,183 of the vaccinated cattle were from the Lira City East division, while 2,374 were from the Lira City West division.

The vaccination effort was made possible by the 25,000 doses of Foot and Mouth Disease vaccines provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industries, and Fisheries.

However, Dr Okello expressed concern over some leaders who have been discouraging farmers from participating in the vaccination exercise, accusing them of sabotaging a government programme.

Despite this setback, Dr. Okello mentioned that they are aiming to vaccinate an additional 3,500 cattle against Foot and Mouth Disease.
