The electoral commission of Lango Cultural Foundation has declared Ambassador Dickson Ogwang Okul as newly elected paramount chief under Lango Cultural Foundation to succeed Mzee Yosam Odur Ebii who will step down in November this year.
Lango Cultural Foundation electoral commission chairman, Col (Rtd) Dan Opito Odwee declared the election results at Lira Palm Gardens, Lira city at around midnight.
Dickson Ogwang Okul, the clan head of Pala Ocol garnered 76, 307 votes followed by Prof. Richard Nam the clan head of Okii Amat who got 31,920 votes, Okii bura clan head, Benjamin Okii came third with 12,513 votes while Dr. Dan Okello the clan head of Guna tailed with 12,513 votes out of 12,6307 votes cast.
In his inaugural address, Ambassador Okul expressed his commitment to fostering unity among the people of Lango and advocating for regional development.
This comes after Lira high court presiding Justice Phillips Odoki yesterday instituted an interim order which sought to stop Lango cultural foundation from proceeding with organizing this election, declaring the election results or installing a new leader until court pronounces itself on the matter.
Lawyers of new Lango paramount chief elect Dr. Eng. Michael Odongo Okune of Lango cultural institution faction yesterday ran to court to seek an interim order stopping this election.
This legal action precedes a hearing scheduled for next week regarding a temporary injunction that the Lango Cultural Foundation had filed to postpone the election of a new paramount chief, originally slated for March 1, 2024, which was ultimately won by Dr. Eng. Michael Odongo Okune.
