The Uganda Registration Service Bureau (URSB) has launched a Technology and Innovation Support Centre at Comboni College in Lira City to foster the growth of science, technology, and innovation among students.
During the center’s opening, Bishop Sanctus Lino Wanok of the Lira Diocese urged teachers to make effective use of the center to enhance the teaching of science and technology, which are crucial for development.
URSB’s Deputy Registrar General, Alex Anganya, noted that while there are 35 centers across the country, Comboni College is the only educational institution in Uganda to host one, owing to the school’s notable level of innovation.
Lira City Senior Education Officer, Andrew Ogwang Oyang, pledged to support the promotion of science, innovation, and technology through funding initiatives.
Comboni College Headteacher, Bua John Charles, highlighted challenges the school faces, including inadequate infrastructure and limited internet access that hinder innovation efforts.
Students from the Robotics Club, Elem Joshua and Michael Okao, expressed optimism that the new center will help enhance science and innovation among their peers.
The center is composed of a solar concentrator, traffic light, fuel-free generator, security alarm system and automated garbage system among others.
