Couple arrested for robbing Oyam catholic church

Police Oyam district are investigating 2 suspects accused of breaking into a church and stealing several other items from St Mary’s main chapel Anyeke under Lira Diocese in Oyam Town council.

These suspects are KK Deng and eloping wife, Catherine Auma, both residents of Alutkot cell in Oyam Town Council were picked up following a complaint from the church management about the disappearance of church property.

It is alleged that Deng and his unknown colleagues broke into the church on 18th April 2013 and made away with items meant for supporting the poor during Easter among other items in the church.

The Oyam District Police Commander, Innocent Mubangizi said in a brief statement that the suspects will be charged with burglary and theft, adding that they are still looking for more suspects’ link to the matter.

Geoffrey Olir, the LC1 Chairman of Alutkot cell says the suspects were arrested on Tuesday evening by local leaders following a tip off and handed over to police at Oyam central police station.

By press time, police were still recovering Part of the stolen property from shops where the suspect allegedly sold to at a cheaper price.
