Rt. Rev Raphael of Nebbi takes over Gulu Archdiocese as the new Bishop

The former Archbishop of Gulu Catholic Archdiocese, John Baptist Odama has been lauded for bringing peace and stability in war-torn northern Uganda

Odama`s twenty-five-year tenure as Bishop of Gulu Archdiocese officially ended recently after he clocked the retirement age 75.

Archbishop Odama who replaced Bishop Luluga in 1999 will now be replaced by the 63-year-old Archbishop Raphael Wokorach Pa Omony of Nebbi Catholic Diocese.

Archbishop Odama announced his retirement and successor from Cathedral Church in Gulu City during a session with commenced with the Rosary prayer.

The communique from Pope Francis states that Odama now becomes the Apostolic Administrator of Gulu Archbishop until when his successor is installed on yet to be announced date.

Christians, leaders, and residents of Gulu City have lauded the outgoing Bishop`s role in pacifying peace in northern Uganda, conflict mediation, and creating unity among different religious denominations.

Notably, Odama is recognized for enduring the cold of the night with night commuters at Gulu Main Bus Park, mediating peace between the LRA rebel group and the government of Uganda among others.
