Citizen Voice and Action, a non-governmental organisation operating in Minakulu sub county, Myene, and Minakulu town council in Oyam district, revealed in their findings that the rights of many children are being violated. This was disclosed by Mr. Ojok Ali, the Publicity Officer of Citizen Voice and Action, during a recent stakeholders’ meeting held at the District Council Hall in Oyam district.

Florence Akullu, a police officer in charge of children’s affairs at Oyam Central Police Station, refuted the allegation that the police charge excessive fees for police bonds, emphasising that police bonds are, in fact, free.

Akullu also noted that most of the community is not reporting cases of child abuse, choosing negotiation over legal procedures.

Hon Betty Owani, the Secretary of Health, attributed the widespread child abuse in Oyam to high levels of alcohol consumption among couples and called for increased sensitisation by leaders to curb this vice.
