Nabbanja Gives Shs 10m to St. Mary’s Loro Catholic Parish to Boost Development Projects

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has extended financial support amounting to 10 million shillings to St. Mary’s Catholic Parish in Loro, Oyam District. The money is earmarked for the purchase of chairs and further development of the parish.

The contribution was officially handed over by Oyam District Woman Member of Parliament, Honourable Santa Alum Ogwang, during the opening of the church and celebrations at the parish.
In her message, Nabbanja commended the Catholic Church for its continued role in promoting social and economic development within communities. She highlighted the Church’s contribution to government programmes such as the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, and other interventions aimed at improving household incomes and livelihoods. She emphasized that the donation would help in acquiring chairs and construction materials to advance the parish building project.

Honourable Santa Alum Ogwang welcomed the Prime Minister’s support and praised the Christians of Loro Parish for their dedication to the construction project. She particularly acknowledged the efforts of parish priest Father Peter Panya and the Christian community, noting that their collective determination had enabled significant progress. Alum also expressed gratitude to Members of Parliament from Lango and other regions who have contributed financially to the project, and she pledged to continue mobilising additional support for development initiatives in Lango.

Bishop Emeritus Joseph Franzelli congratulated the Christians of Loro Parish for their perseverance and sacrifice in advancing the construction project. He encouraged them to maintain unity and continue supporting the work until completion.

Meanwhile, Bishop Santus Lino Wanok of Lira Catholic Diocese, who led the prayers during the celebrations, called upon church leaders, political leaders, and Christians to work together for the development of the Church and the wider community. He stressed the importance of unity and cooperation among leaders and faithful, urging them to put aside differences for collective progress.

The event coincided with the Catholic Church’s annual celebration of the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, observed globally on August 15.

The feast commemorates the belief that the Virgin Mary was taken body and soul into heavenly glory at the end of her earthly life. The celebration brought together Catholic faithful, religious leaders, political leaders, and community members for prayers, thanksgiving, and fellowship.
