10 Suspects Held Over Office Break-in and Computer Theft at Ngai SS in Oyam

The territorial police in Oyam District have apprehended ten suspects in connection with the theft of computers from Ngai Secondary School’s computer laboratory.
The incident occurred on August 23, 2026, at around 2:00 a.m. in Barryeko Village, Akucha Parish, Ngai Sub-County, Oyam District, and was later reported to police by Mr. Okot Jannani, 57, the head teacher of Ngai SS and resident of Barryeko Village.
According to SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, spokesperson for the North Kyoga Regional Police, it is alleged that unknown individuals broke into the school’s computer lab during the night and stole sixteen HP Central Processing Units valued at approximately 40 million shillings. Upon discovering the break-in at around 7:40 a.m., Mr. Jannani contacted the ICT teacher, Mr. Olobo Tonny, before filing a report at Oyam Central Police Station.
Okema confirmed that police immediately opened a case file of office breaking and theft under SD Ref 14/23/08/2026 at Oyam CPS. The crime scene was visited and processed by the District Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO), accompanied by uniformed officers and detectives. A canine unit was deployed, and the DVR system was recovered and exhibited as evidence.
The suspects arrested for questioning include:
- Mr. Olobo Tonny, 42 – ICT Teacher
- Ogwal Patrick, 40 – Security Guard
- Ogwang Isaac, 40 – Security Guard
- Eban Tom, 55 – Security Guard
- Nam Darius, 17 – Student
- Ogwal Yubu, 17 – Student
- Ogwal Darius, 17 – Student
- Oyuku Emmanuel, 16 – Student
- Munu Milton Chris, 17 – Student
- Ongom Moses, 17 – Student
Plans are underway to review CCTV footage from the ICT lab, fingerprint all suspects, and collect DNA samples for forensic analysis. Investigators will also interview the suspects, service providers of the surveillance system, and installers of the computers to establish the level of student involvement in the alleged crime.
The arrests followed an operation commanded by the Deputy RDC of Oyam, Francis Behangana, popularly known in the community as UPE Product. Speaking to our reporter, Behangana confirmed the incident and emphasized the importance of protecting school property.
Preliminary police findings suggest the thieves gained access to the computer laboratory by cutting through the door frames at the back of the building. A police detective, who requested anonymity, revealed that a sniffer dog deployed during the investigation traced the scent trail and stopped at the watchmen’s room.
A case of burglary and theft has been officially opened at Oyam Central Police Station under SD Ref 14/23/08/2026. Investigations remain ongoing to establish the full extent of the crime and recover the stolen equipment.
This operation underscores the determination of law enforcement authorities to combat rising cases of school break-ins and safeguard educational institutions in Oyam District.
