Police probe death of Kenyan pastor in Kitgum District

Police in Kitgum District are investigating a suspected case of suicide after a Kenyan national and resident pastor was found dead early on Saturday morning in Lobiri Village, Katwotwo Parish, Orom East Sub county.

The deceased, identified as Nkulala Fred, a Kenyan pastor and peasant farmer living in Lobiri Village, was discovered at around 6:30 am on 24 May 2026. According to police, the body was found hanging from a mango tree in his garden.

The incident was reported by Lokwang David, a 38-year-old resident of the same village, who had gone to the garden for casual work as he had done the previous day. Upon arrival, he found the pastor hanging and immediately alerted authorities.

According to the Regional Police spokesperson for Aswa East, IP Oloya Joe, the following actions were taken: the suicide report was registered at Orom Police Station; the scene was visited by a team led by DCID D/ASP Mboowa Yasin, together with SOCO and homicide detectives; the scene was documented for further investigation; and the body was transported to Kitgum General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination, pending the arrival of relatives from Kenya.

Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the pastor’s death.
