Betty Amongi’s farewell to Oyam south sparks mixed reactions

Some voters in Oyam South constituency, Oyam district, have expressed mixed reactions to the farewell tour of Betty Amongi Akena, the Minister for Gender, Labour, and Social Development.

Betty Amongi Akena, the current Oyam South MP, recently began her farewell tour in the constituency as she prepares to contest for the Lira City Woman MP seat in the 2026 elections.

During one of her stops at Amaji P.7 School in Kamdini town council, Amongi, who has served as the Member of Parliament for Oyam South for 25 years, expressed her gratitude to the people of the constituency for trusting her with their representation.

She highlighted her achievements during her tenure, including infrastructure development, improved livelihoods, education, health, and security.

Amongi also expressed her appreciation for the support she has received from the Oyam South electorate and requested their understanding as she moves on to take on new responsibilities in Lira City, where she is married.

As she prepares to face off against Health Minister Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng for the Lira City Woman MP seat, Amongi is seeking the support and prayers of her constituents
