The Resident District Commissioner of Oyam, Sgt. Shilaku James, has demanded a comprehensive audit into alleged mismanagement of revenue collected from Kamdini Town Council over the past three financial years.
Speaking during a Community Baraza held yesterday in Kamdini for Oyam South Constituency, Sgt. Shilaku revealed that a total of 637 million shillings, comprising 287 million shillings from local revenue and 350 million shillings earmarked for the purchase of market land and construction of a public toilet, remains unaccounted for, leaving the local community in uncertainty.
In his remarks, Sgt. Shilaku urged residents to present receipts and evidence to the Town Clerk, stressing that accountability must be enforced. He emphasized that the funds must be recovered, warning that corruption will not be tolerated in Kamdini Town Council. In his words, we want the money, let them bring back the money. Whoever wants to leave Kamdini Town Council, we shall chase him or her. There is no room for corruption.
The LCV Chairperson of Oyam District, Nelson Adea Akar, commended residents for speaking out, assuring them that even leaders from past regimes, including politicians and civil servants such as Sub-County Accountants and SAS, would be held accountable for mismanagement. He reminded the community that wrongdoing in government service remains punishable even after officials leave office.
Maxwell Edwok, District Youth Chairperson and Kamdini Town Council leader, welcomed the Baraza and insisted that once the audit is completed, another community meeting should be convened to share the findings with residents. He noted that despite continuous revenue collection, Kamdini has seen no meaningful changes, making a true audit essential.
Local resident Giriza Monica testified that she was among those whose money was collected under the pretext of constructing a public toilet and market plots. She revealed that she paid 1.4 million shillings for 12 plots, yet no tangible development has been realized.
Jurubabel Opio Okori, Awitong of Adok Oyengo Woo clan, praised the RDC, CAO, and LCV leadership for bringing the Baraza to Kamdini. He urged authorities to ensure that funds collected from residents are returned, noting that the absence of accountability has left Kamdini without proper streets, a functional market, or public facilities. He demanded that those responsible for exploiting the community be brought to justice.

This Baraza has exposed deep-rooted concerns over financial mismanagement in Kamdini Town Council, with residents demanding transparency, accountability, and restitution of their hard-earned money.
