The territorial police in Dokolo district are searching for five youths believed to have beaten Olido Geoffrey to death.
The incident occurred in Adeknino village, Adekinino parish, Adekinino sub-county in Dokolo district, involving suspects identified as Okello Denis (youth clan leader of the Palamyek clan), Opio Allan, Ojok Aron, Oyee Solomon, Omara Tonny, and others who remain at large.
It is alleged that on 10 November 2024, Olido Geoffrey, now deceased, stole a sack of simsim from his parents’ home. His parents, Ogwang Julius and Alwedo Betty, reported him to the youth clan leader, Okello Denis, who arrived with a group of other youths to discipline him. The group allegedly took Olido to an unknown location on 11 November 2024 at around 6 p.m. and returned him on 12 November 2024 at around 11 a.m., severely beaten.
Ogwang Julius, the father, immediately took him to a nearby clinic, where he was later pronounced dead. He then reported the matter to Adeknino Police Post.
The officer in charge of Adekinino Police Outpost informed Dokolo Police, and a team from the homicide department, along with the Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO), led by the district CID, visited the scene. A postmortem was conducted at the scene, and the body was handed over to the parents for burial.
Superintendent of Police Jimmy Patrick Okema, spokesperson for the North Kyoga regional police, confirmed that the suspects have fled the village, but efforts are underway to apprehend them. Police have also requested the parents’ assistance in locating the youths involved.
He described the incident as deeply unfortunate, criticising the father for reporting to youth leaders who lacked the legal authority to handle such a case, ultimately resulting in the son’s death due to torture.
He pledged that the police will make every effort to ensure justice prevails.
