Sample of Birth Notification.

This issue came to light on 13th November 2024, when the office of the subcounty Chief issued an outdated birth certificate to Emmy Ogwang of Acimi central in Acimi parish for a fee of 10,000 UGX.

Walter Oceng, the Acting Sub-county Chief of Myene subcounty, in his press release on 20th November 2024, expressed regrets over the unacceptable behavior by a yet-to-be-identified staff member of Myene Sub-county.

He stated that arrangements are underway to identify the perpetrator.

James Ogwal, the LCIII Chairperson of Myene subcounty, described the act of issuing outdated birth certificates as unprofessional and inappropriate, adding that it portrays Myene Sub-county negatively in public.

He urged the Sub-county Chief to take tough action against those responsible.

Meanwhile, Moses Meregurwa, the Registration Officer at the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) Oyam Office, issued a strong warning to public institutions regarding the charging of fees for birth certificates or notifications.

He emphasised that issuing birth notifications and registrations are done free of charge in Uganda, and anyone charging for these services is acting against the law.
